Vietnamese egg coffee has long been a proud drink of Hanoians and of Vietnam as well as its name stamped on the list of must-try drinks as foreign visitors come to Vietnam.
I - Overview
The first Vietnamese egg coffee recipe was created in 1946 by Mr. Nguyen Van Giang, who was working as a barista at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. Due to the fact that milk products were scarce at the moment, he used egg yolk instead. One day he decided to quit his job and started his business where his first business address was on Cau Go Street and later at No. 7 Hang Gai

1 – Which kinds are there?
Vietnamese egg coffee can be divided into two kinds, hot egg coffee and cold egg coffee.
Hot egg coffee is meticulously prepared, usually placed in a bowl of warm water in order to always stay warm. The greasy aroma combined with the smoke rising in the cold weather of Hanoi is a perfect choice.
In the cold version, the greasy coffee cup is added with ice, which makes the drinker satisfied with the refreshing coolness of the coffee along with the strong taste that lingers on the tip of the tongue.
When you enjoy it in any version, its typical flavor does not change. The layers of foam are fluffy, porous and the coffee taste is traditionally strong, what a way to make people fall in love!
2 – A story about egg coffee in Vietnam
Due to the irresistible feature, egg coffee is favored by international friends for the name "excellent drink".
The proud Vietnamese drink has been named by Buzzfeed - the world's leading website as the top 17 drinks to try when you travel.
Our "excellent drink" has always got storms of compliments from famous bloggers, as Mark Lowerson once said: "A glass cup whose creamy foam looks as if it is going to jump out of the glass, less than an inch below it is a familiar strong black coffee” and he described it as “a mix of heaven and hell”.
In addition, egg coffee was introduced to the world as a pride at the second US-Korean summit taking place on February 27th and 28th, 2019 in Hanoi. Free coffee was served to the reporters working during the 3 days of the conference. The "specialty" coffee of Hanoi attracted foreign media.
