1 - Spring in Hanoi

Hanoi’s spring lasts 3 months, from January to March (according to the Vietnamese Lunar calendar). It is considered as the most poetic season within the year because of pristine colors of flowers, saplings and tender shoots together with  warm weather which is absolutely ideal for tourism. In spring, Hanoi’s temperature ranges from 17℃ to 24℃, the humidity is typically from 65% to 97%. Normally, Hanoi has rain, especially drizzle and fog in the early morning. Therefore, if coming to Hanoi within this time, travelers should prepare suitable clothes and umbrellas.
The best time to travel to Hanoi for enjoying traditional festivals is spring.  Spring is also the festival season not only in Hanoi but all of Vietnam. Several festivals are organized in the Hanoi area such as: Hai Ba Trung Temple Festival (Me Linh district), Co Loa Festival (Co Loa commune, Dong Anh district), Giong Temple Festival (Soc Son district), Huong Pagoda Festival (My Duc district) and many more.

2 - Summer in Hanoi

Summer falls in the time between the fourth and sixth Lunar month. It is the hottest season and also has the most precipitation. The average temperature is approximately 29.2℃, sometimes reaching a peak of 40℃ at mid-day. The air humidity ranges from 51 to 85% and the average rainfall is 1800mm. High temperatures along with high humidity may make visitors uncomfortable when visiting Hanoi during the summer.
When visiting Hanoi in this season, visitors should bring favourable clothes (for hot and humid weather), hats along with sunscreens. Especially in the summer, nightlife in Hanoi has a lot of hustle and bustle, especially in the Hanoi Old Quarter associated with the West Lake area. In short, summer is not the best time to travel to Hanoi Vietnam.

In the Lunar calendar, the three months from July to September are considered the most romantic and charming seasons of the year, Hanoi autumn. The fall naturally has ideal weather conditions. The cool temperature is the typical element of autumn within Hanoi. The average temperature is neither too high nor too low and ranges between 21-34 degrees Celsius. The average humidity of the autumn months is about 79 %. The average rainfall is only 20-40mm per day. Sometimes, within a day, rain suddenly comes and goes in a few minutes..
In general, with the mentioned ideal climate conditions, autumn is probably the most wonderful and best time of the year to visit Hanoi city. Tourists can travel anywhere and anytime without considering the risks of bad weather.

4 - Winter in Hanoi

The last three months of the Lunar calendar are taken by the winter season. Due to the influence of the dry and cold Northeast monsoon, Hanoi's winter is extremely cold with the temperature ranging from 19 to 26 degrees Celsius. In addition, Hanoi sometimes has showers and scattered thunderstorms, in which there is a possibility of tornadoes, whirlwinds and strong winds.

In conclusion, depending on your favorite season, it is possible to visit Hanoi all year round. However, Hanoi shows its most alluring beauty within the 3 months of autumn and in spring time from January to April.
The weather in autumn is not as hot as summer and not as cold as winter bringing the most relaxing, easeful and comfortable feeling to visitors. Moreover, it rarely has rain within the autumn months, not interrupting the traveling time of tourists. Besides, “Hoa Sua” known as milk flowers, one of the most noticeable elements of Hanoi’s beauty, only comes into full bloom in this season. Hanoi’s streets are filled with the beauty and the scent of milk flowers as well as many other kinds of flowers. The yellow leaves fall slowly down every road, the hundred-year-old trees cast shadows on the water and the cool breeze. They all gradually create the beauty of a peaceful, romantic and tranquil capital. Furthermore, if coming to Hanoi in autumn, visitors will not only have a chance to see an image of ancient Hanoi in the romance of autumn but also to experience one of the most important festivals of Vietnam, the Mid Autumn Festival, as well as to enjoy Hanoi specialties which are only available in fall.

III - The inappropriate time to come Hanoi

Besides the best time to go to Hanoi, we also highlight the period that may not be the best time to have a wonderful Hanoi tour such as the beginning of the Lunar New Year and the hottest days within summer.

1 - The first three day of Lunar New Year

These three days which usually fall into the middle of January or early February of the Solar calendar are the uniting and gathering time of all Vietnamese families.  After a long year of working and studying, the Lunar New Year is considered as the time for gathering, cheering together, relaxing, sharing the whole year’s stories and commemorating one’s ancestors. Therefore, at that time, Vietnamese people go back to their hometown to reunite with their relatives and almost all the tourism services, restaurants, stores and shops are postponed. Open restaurants are uncommon and it is very difficult for tourists to have a nice holiday.
Besides, many tourist attractions and destinations also are closed during these three days. In addition, accommodation facilities are mostly closed at this time, making it very inconvenient for tourists to find hotels, motels and resorts to stay. As a result,  your trip will be less interesting.

2 - The hottest days of summer

As you know, Hanoi's summer is quite hot and humid which may reach the peak temperature of up to over 40 degrees Celsius. Therefore, traveling to Hanoi at this time visitors may feel uncomfortable, tired and even more serious, you could get sunstroke, which would obviously interrupt your holiday as well as having negative effects on your health.
In general, the best time to visit Hanoi Vietnam is from October to April of the next year when the weather is not so hot and the rainfall is lower than the period of summer from May to September.
